...Writing as Witnessing the Loss...

With regard to the theatre history and Historiography - "sense of incompletion" is immanent to the theatre writing in general and theatre history is particular (ref. to a lost 17 volume compilation on ancien theatre in the reign of Augustus by Juba II of Mauretania).  But in general because of evanescence of the performance itself.  "The self-consciousness about perceived contradiction of writing the history of so notoriously transient a form as theatre suggests a point of entrance for critical theory".  And this "experience of loss" in theatre contradicts all-cultural search for the experience, critics is a true witness of loss.
